So that's why the second DRAM socket on h2so4 was so unhappy.


It turns out that tin whiskers (or similar things) show up and cause you grief at inopportune times. A pass with some flux, the hot air pencil, some isoprop, and a toothbrush cleaned everything up nice and new -- and now the machine behaves perfectly.

Also, here is an unrelated project of the day; we were going to build a multiplexer and TOSLINK presence detect circuit out of discretes, but when Roboclub only had logic families last heard of in 1983, we decided to give it up and move into the 21st century. The video is sort of dark, since it was shot in Roselawn, but hopefully you can see what is going on.
