Periodically, I think of phrases that really should be Googlable, but when I go search Google for them, I find nothing. These phrases have been either brought to mind or coined as a result of a session of working with Cadence (a chip design/layout program) today.

CAD neck: what you get after working in a CAD program for a while. If you're using a touchpad, it might also manifest as CAD hands. Either way, it's painful.

micro: Managing something or someone down to the minutiae. Comes from the application to real time strategy games. Is something that is possessed, too: "I do not have enough micro to lay this out!" "Argh, I need more micro." (The possession of micro probably comes from "that unit needs a lot of micro", or some such.) Can be used in many contexts: "[livejournal.com profile] zagarus and I spent the last three hours microing each other; for some people, that's indicative of a very unproductive hacking session, but for us, it strangely works." "I hate all the damn micro needed for this; why can't I just edit control points like I can in Inkscape?"

CAD micro: The micro that is developed (or needed) as a result of using CAD tools for a long time. Refers, in particular, to the micro of positioning things down to the smallest quantum available.

CAD hax: The ability to fly around a CAD tool, making sweeping changes on the screen and making very small edits very quickly. Also something that is possessed. "Man, he totally has the CAD hax; he just took what looked like a wild guess zoomed all the way out, and it's *right* on the border! Damn."

that was closer than it looked!: Often used to describe very close calls (in that exact phrasing). Comes from the Dr. Ian Comment'ry. Generally used after something barely fits, or something barely works (or something that works but shouldn't have!).
